My thinking is, if it's too high then the motor and loom won't have
any protection ?

DM. These are some of the specs for the controller, note the 100 ampeneral Spec .:
1 . power supply: 48V, 60V ,72V battery , MAX DC current:100A , Max phase current:250A
2 . Product Size: 250x146x62mm
3 . Net Weight:2.2 kgs
4 . Testing way: Hall sensor
5 . Phone App or computer software can communicate with the controller to modify parameters
