Years ago, a lady friend produced a girl-child (not mine) and intended to call it 'Fleur'.
She wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer and somehow the poor kid was registered as 'Fleurer'.

My middle name is Ann, without an 'e'. I am most indignant if an 'e' is added and l insist on its removal!
My Comfirmation name is Mary, after the Virgin Mary! No sniggers please, we're British!!

I reckon Ann is the female equivalent of John. They are both very popular as middle names.
