The definition I read said: -
"
a sensation of whirling and loss of balance, associated particularly with looking down from a great height, or caused by disease affecting the inner ear or the vestibular nerve; giddiness".
All I can say to that is - looking down from a great height wouldn't help if you suffer with vertigo, which is related to ear problems and therefore affects your balance.
My first incident was in my house sitting on the settee, one minute fine, the next sickness, giddiness and then full blown vertigo - my settee was normal height by the way ......
