Chicken Kiev Help wanted

I am looking for the SIDE dish that is TRADITIONALLY served with Chicken Kiev.

Does anyone know what the inventor, French Chef Nicolas Francois Appert, served with his creation, Chicken Kiev ?

Whatever side dish is chosen, it should never overpower the delicate flavor of the Kiev.

I know many serve mashed potatoes with Chicken Kiev BUT as the chicken already has a ton of butter, I think I'll pass on that.

I always serve it with baby boils and a green veg like green beans or peas

No need to butter the boils as they soak up the garlic butter

Poached egg and asparagus tips which have been plunged into hot, then cold water and finally finished off in a frying pan with a small amount of salted butter.

Ah. Ok. In the U.S. we call them "new potatoes".

yeah, good idea. I kinda like it. I think I'll bake them well salted and with olive oil.

Now, for some color. I'm thinking maybe glazed baby carrots.

I am assuming you are making your own Kievs and not using those tasteless shop bought ones ?

Usually serve mine with new potatoes, braised samphire, carrots and roast beetroot.

Re: Chicken Kiev Help wanted

My favourite is crispy sliced potatoes, covered with grated cheese, and cooked in the oven at the same time as the Kiev. Or, a jacket potato, cooked inside scooped out, mashed, seasoned, milk and butter added, and grated cheese, piled back in and more cheese on top.

Served with peas, and maybe carrot.

Absolutely yum.

But I buy the ready made ones.
