Resizing photos

As some of you know, I've been experiencing problems with Photobucket not resizing. So I finally did what I should have had sense enough to do in the first place: Google Photo Resizing, and found a site that actually works, is free, and is simple enough for a non-techy person like me to use. If you too have any problems you might want to give this a look:

http://www.resizemypicture.com/

And can someone explain in simple language what the difference is between a JPG and a JPEG photo? I cannot resize the latter in that site.

JPEG is basically the same as JPG, . . . movies have two extensions too DM, . . there's MPEG and MPG, use your file editor to change from JPEG to JPG, . . remember to put the dot before the extension though.

Re: Resizing photos

Thanks, Nero, I'll try that. Oddly enough, the two photos I'm trying to resize for a friend were taken by the same mobile phone: one is JPG and the second JPEG, which the new site said was unacceptable. It does get confusing, doesn't it?

You probably uploaded to two different destinations DM. I wasn't aware there was a difference between JPEG and JPG I will have to look into it and get back to you

Re: Resizing photos

Macs support both .jpg or .jpeg as extensions.

Almost all my images are listed with the .jpg extension and I've never had any problems on my Mac.

I've just tried uploading files listed as .jpg and .jpeg to that website, and it's bringing up an error with both, which suggests the problem may lie with that particular website.

I use another resizer website (PicResize.com) and .jpeg and .jpg both work fine. Maybe try that one Eileen...?

Re: Resizing photos

Azz, these pics were ones taken on a mobile phone by one of our Catsey members that I was trying to resize for him; one was JPG and the other JPEG. Anyhow, whatever it was, I managed to get them both resized. And yes, Mac does both. as I'm sure you know. I'd forgotten about this thread!

Re: Resizing photos

Some servers might be fussy about upper and lower case. If you have trouble with .JPG, try renaming the file(s) to .jpg before uploading. Files named with the .JPEG (or .jpeg) extension can be renamed to .jpg. They should then upload OK and be seen in any browser or computer photo program. Best to try these thing on copies of the originals just to be safe.

Regarding resizing, an alternative is to use a photo editing program installed on the computer. They sometimes have a few more options than online editors.
