Ticks

Just took a tick off Elsie, I'm sure they are around a lot later this year. Are they still active where you are or are we just lucky

Re: Ticks

Yes we have them until the first big freeze of the year and that kills the wee scunners off till Spring. I just treat Dageus all year round though, better safe than sorry.

Re: Ticks

That could be it, we haven't had a big freeze yet. Yes we treat all year too I rarely take a live one off her so the stuff obviously kills them.

Re: Ticks

We live in a very sandy area and both our dogs are terrier breeds so they hunt. Our Yorkshire terrier is especially bad for getting them at the very top of her head but she’s a determined hunter who will sit waiting near a hole in the ground for hours. I’m thinking of getting a vaccination that prevents them from staying on the animal but I need to look into it more. Have any of you heard of them at all?

The other one doesn’t seem to get any but she doesn’t really hunt much; just plays and plays.

That’s probably the only thing I don’t like about living here is that’s its so sandy. We get lots of ants also and some of them can really bite.

We haven’t had a freeze yet either.

What do you use to treat them Rox? Is it a vaccine of some sort?

Re: Ticks

We give them tablets flea tick and worm treatments. Definitely work for worms and fleas and ticks still bite but die quickly. I'm not too sure I'd like another vaccination they always seem to give such a big dose to the little ones. I'm told it doesn't matter if they are 5LB or 15LB but that looks like a huge dose when yours is the 5lb variety.

Tablets. Ahhh perfect thank you. Now it’s coming back to me.
I remember the tablets. They come in those silver bubble wraps.

I agree with the vaccine consideration. You are right. The dosage seems to be iffy for sure and my Yorkie is 12 so I’m being extra careful.

I’m going out today and will look for them.

Re: Ticks

Best ones are from the vet bratti, I've never found over the counter ones very effective.

Yes I like to think if any thing goes wrong my vet knows what he's given them, whereas with otc drugs who knows what's going on.
