Can't remember the flat irons but do remember when I was very young two elderly sisters lived next door to us and had no electricity and they had a gas iron-flames used to shoot out of the side when they ironed-wouldn't be allowed today..........health and safety and all that......

I don't remember the flat iron .... but I do remember old fashioned curling irons. My aunt used to use one for her hair.

This was the flat iron, I remember mum used to heat it up by standing on the gas ring on the stove......

I remember the glass half pint bottles, then they changed to the wee triangular pyramidy things. If you didn't hit the straw hole right then you got covered in milk!

Re: What do you remember???

Oh I'm loving this thread.....sitting here smiling to myself and reminiscing!
I remember most of the things already said and also......
A daily dose of Cod Liver Oil followed by a swig of Orange juice to take the taste away.
A new outfit for Easter was always a new ''Duster Coat'' and white gloves.
My aunt was a wizz with the knitting needles, and she would follow a pattern, but knit a jumper from the shoulder down to the hem. Then as we grew it was easy to unpick just one row of the rib and knit a few more inches to make the jumper last longer.
