Yes, indeed. That is very true. My sister and a good friend of Marge have each had a 'titectomy' due to breast cancer, and they're some of the lucky ones.
It's no joke.

Actually, as an aside, I'm just wondering what all of this has to do with smart meters!

We are currently helping a good friend who is still receiving treatment and unable to go out due to covid. It's heartbreaking to see her struggling with the treatment...

Sadly Foxy, my ex-hubby's prostate cancer killed him.
A horrible, slow death it was too.

Although we had been divorced for many years, we always kept in touch and were good friends.
It was awful seeing him deteriorate the way he did.

we were discussing nuclear power which would pretty much remove the need for a smart meter. Some think that nuclear reactors give you cancer. However, it would appear that cancer is caused by a lot of other things.

I do think coal & wood burning might have increased the lung cancer risk, but burning wood and coal has been around longer than fags and lung cancer, but vehicle emissions hasn't....

I don't necessarily look at statistics, for me the facts are overwhelming, because I can certainly vouch for people I know, and there are lots of friends and acquaintances who are walking around with Prostate Cancer. All of which are white. In fact it seems like just about everyone I meet who are the same age as me are suffering with Prostate cancer, some of which didn't make it....
Lung cancer is still very common, along with prostate, bowel and breast. They have better treatments these days but lung cancer is the biggest killer. It's often a secondary disease. A friend of mine has it that way. She has survived against the odds mainly due to her excellent treatment. A friend's husband has it too but in his case it's primary and down to being a heavy smoker. Again he has survived so far with only one lung. It's so hard to treat though.

However, going back to topic I don't think these are related to nuclear power stations. People are unfairly prejudiced against nuclear power. It's actually the cleanest source. The only reason we don't have more IMO is because it costs so much to build the sites. If people understood the immense benefits vs risks they would stop protesting against it!

Oh, I'm not complaining about it, though I see that some do!

As far as I'm concerned, threads naturally stray off-topic over time, just as do conversations.

I completely agree.

The Frogs seem to manage and, moreover, seem to produce more electricity than they need in that they sell their excess to us.

That's what we should be doing!

That is very true. It would also add to our export sector because unlike gas creating and exporting electricity is very straightforward even with only moderately up to date technology.

But then both you and the French will end up with surplus power, who would you sell it to?

The whole premise of smart meters is to reduce over capacity and therefore cost.

The purpose of smart meters was to take out a segment of cost that came from having to employ meter readers and the cost of processing the results into bills. The benefits for the consumer were supposed to come about as a result of consumers seeing the actual costs of things they were using and stop using them so much.

Now with increased penetration of the horrible things and the almost instantaneous availability of consumption in order to load distribute the National Grid because of its awful state due to lack of investment in generation capacity and routine maintenance plus investment in transmission plant (wires!)

Now with the upsurge in electric vehicles the pressure being placed now and in the future means that huge changes in addition to grid management are becoming desperately needed hence the need for intelligent power distribution and management.

I was wondering about that Todger, I believe modifications have to be made to the average household supply in order to manage the high amperage requirements when charging an electric vehicle. If we all decided to go electric I'm sure the grid would collapse.

It would seem that any advantage we may have benefited from by reducing our energy needs with Wind Turbines, solar panels, and energy saving lightbulbs will be lost when the brown stuff hits the fan.....Oh! wait a minute, there won't be enough power to supply the fan...
