Re: Not looking forward to christmas ??

I'm the same every year Marianna ... no especial reason but I'm always glad when normality is resumed.
We don't all rush about, caught up in the excitement and spending bonanza.

I'll be logging on here on Christmas day as normal, a normal day ... and hope there are others here too.

Sorry to hear that Mariana ,you don't say why ! I'm a nosey little devil .
My best advice is treat yourself have a lazy day spoil yourself, a long soak in the bath ,bit of pampering , favourite goodies and bottle of something bubbly .

I don't dread xmas to me it's just another couple of days like a long weekend, I detest the hype and the waste of it and I'm very glad when we get back to normal.....but I do like a nice slice of turkey

I dont dread xmas but its not the same as when we were younger,I detest all the spending and excess....to me its only 2 days of nice food and hopefully some decent telly all spent with people I love which makes it!
I do spare a thought or several for others that arnt having a very good time in life..

Re: Not looking forward to christmas ??

If anyone is able sometimes volunteering at that time can really help not just the charities but the volunteers too.

We have in the past helped serve dinner to homeless, given a couple who wanted a break time off by helping out at her kennels, and taken in a couple of dogs who needed to get out of harms way until a home could be found in the new year. Haven't done anything for a while as family took over rather but if we ever find ourselves alone over Christmas I know what we will be doing.

Re: Not looking forward to christmas ??

Marian I don't 'do' Christmas I am a Humanist.
For me it is an irritation which has to be overcome .

For the sake of my grandchildren I buy gifts and spend a few hours with them I take part to a degree with things like school nativity plays and carol concerts to fit in and not spoil things for others.

I don't eat Christmas dinner, the smell of dead bird cooking turns my stomach and living alone I can and do eat exactly what I want at any time so nothing special about Christmas there.

So to me Christmas is much like any other weekend only longer

I did that for 10 years so that those who enjoyed Christmas could spend it with their families. This is my time now

That's a great way to spend a Christmas, especially if on your own
I bet it would be the best Christmas for you too

Helpful...I wouldn't say that exactly Julie, rewarding certainly .

I was already a volunteer with a charity and just undertook to take my 'duties' at Christmas including all night on Christmas eve or all night Christmas night which was an extremely busy time.

I think the best bit was our 'open door' policy Those who had no one could just pop in for a cup of tea and a chat
The look on their faces at having people who genuinly cared about them was beyond price.

Some 'old clients' bought tins of biscuits and sweets for the volunteers.

I also did an extra bit for another charity preparing vegetables too. Christmas used to be a very busy time
