Re: Latin??

I was ''excused'' from Latin after 3 years too! I took Classical Studies instead......far more interesting......Roman and Greek mythology.
Never could get the hang of Latin.....all those declensions

Re: Latin??

The only Latin that has stuck in my head since my schooldays is:
amo, amas, amat, amamus, amatis, amant

I think that was in my first Latin lesson. I did like the language to start with but then was totally confused when we started the Latin tenses......... Present, Imperfect, Future, Perfect, Pluperfect, Future Perfect.

Ah tenses!!-they made no sense at all until years after I got a
PhD I/we went to Italian evening class.

They made sense--and then went on to get an award much more precious than my PhD

GCSE A star in Italian-va bene

Re: Latin??

Tempus fugit was always popular for pupils to show off with at the end of the lesson!

Re: Latin??

I was an altar boy in the Catholic Church. I had to know enough Latin to serve up a mass. I knew the complete Our Father in Latin once.

Re: Latin??

Gallia est omnis divisa in partes tres" ...I still remember my Caesar's Gallic Wars. Loved Latin, had two years of it! Actually love languages: three years of Spanish and a year each of Greek and German.
