When I got my first car all you needed to do anything was a hammer screwdriver spanner and a Haynes manual to fix.... Now you need a 1000 piece Toolkit and a degree in computers and electronics

That is so true, never touch an engine these days can't even see the plug leads. Only really recognise the radiator, windscreen washer and battery.

Re: Car or Lemon

My first car was a Hillman avenger.. With the help of a Haynes I stripped the gearbox and clutch.. Fitted a new head gasket....a new dash board and instrument binnacle from a different car which also meant a new wiring loom.... And it all worked.....would dare attempt it now....

I had the Hillman Hunter GT and that was easy to work on apart from balancing the twin carbs.
They only made 800 of that model which then allowed it to enter production car races.
