Is that what they were? I remember living on a caravan site and some travellers lived there too. Wash day was always a huge day for them they did not use washing machines but scrubbing boards, blue dollies and elbow grease there bed linen was always beautifully white cotton and their undies would sparkle. I thought the blue dollies were some kind of magic.

Yes, but they contained baking soda, not bicarbonate as I said before. Apologies for memory lapse.

I remember the the dolly blues. Used to put them in with the net curtains. to make them whiter than white. Anyone remember the dolly stones. you would get them off the rag and bone man. Use them to clean the front door step.

I was thinking today about my reel to reel tape recorder. All my favourite tunes were recorded from the radio for a party on Saturday night. My children spoke on it I just can't think what happened to it.

I remember when petrol was 25 pence a gallon . . . and you got forecourt service too.

There's a little repair garage here in Brighton that is now tucked behind a large office block. The garage had a corrugated iron roof and was displaying the cost of petrol by having it painted on the sloping side of the roof. The sign reads: Petrol 1s 6d per gallon. - for those who cannot convert back to pre-decimalisation - that 7 1/2p per gallon!!!

We paid over £6 per gallon yesterday at Tesco which was one of the cheaper places. That was for diesel although petrol is not far behind now.

Remember Camay well used to smell really strong so everyone knew you had washed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Dollie blue we all remembered but penny arrow now what are they?
