Forgotten Amaryllis

We always start our amaryllis off in the airing cupboard and due to completely forgetting we put it in there it's grown to a good foot high in the dark, so a pale yellow stem and bud and leaf. I've put it on the window sill but wondering if it will recover. Looks rather like a rude modern sculpture at the moment

Re: Forgotten Amaryllis

Mrs. B did the same thing Julie, she bought one as a present for my mum a couple of weeks back and put it in the cupboard. When she took it out to wrap it last week there was four inches of white stem sticking out of the box! That one is now on our kitchen window cill (see photo) and has started to flower prematurely, and another one is now wrapped up and under my mum's tree...

Re: Forgotten Amaryllis

As I said recently, I always have trouble getting these bulbs to reflower the next year, but I have found this very good article from Sarah Raven, so thought I'd share it with others who like these flowers.

https://www.sarahraven.com/articles/...is_indoors.htm

I have a gorgeous pale pink one just beginning to bloom at the mo, and another one about 4" high which I planted later just to 'stagger' the blooms a bit.

My amaryllis, bought this year, is like a beanstalk ..... it's 20 inches tall and still growing!

I was hoping it would be in flower for Christmas but it doesn't look too far off
