I had some exploratory/diagnostic surgery done this morning at a Private Hospital but as an NHS patient - and my mobile - along with any jewellery - had to be left outside in the car with the friends who took/collected me.

Exactly right, it also depends on how advanced the equipment is.
As was referred to in my link, it is down to local risk Assessments.
Mobiles certainly did not interfere with remote monitoring of Heart etc, we all had them.
Can't speak for operating theatres, but not allowed for scans, everything else was fine.
If you are having an MRI, metal is not a good idea.

I had loads of tests, No Covid, not Diabetic, Liver and kidneys fine.
heart is not, but there we go.
