Obviously something like a right wing socialist!

I have noticed in my various political activities, that party members tend to get on with people from opposition parties better than from their own party members sometimes. In fact the real hatreds are almost always inside the party!!

At polling booths the opposition party workers always chat together and share drinks and sandwiches. The only exception was the 'One Nation Party' members - a short-lived populist racist party. They committed the cardinal sin of talking politics at the booth!

I've had drinkies with a Tory friend in the local conservative club in Ossett back when we were still in the UK. He told his mates their we were his socialist friends, and we kept getting beers bought.

The important thing with politics is to keep it in proportion. I'll always be Labour, and will always regard Thatcher as the ultimate spoiler, but I can still see the other point of view, if the Tories are doing something that makes sense.

here in Australia though, our federal opposition, just like the republicans in the USA, oppose oppose and oppose just out of principle. If Labour do something intrinsically right wing, they'll still oppose it. I hate that.

Re: Should Prisoners have the vote?

I used to hold firm opinions, but I'm not really into politics these days Joan. I often think it is to do with power grabbing and control anyway. I believe there are good, bad and indifferent politicians in all parties and people don't necessarily go into politics for the "good" of the people or country . Can an individual be completely one sided anyway? There are always two sides to the coin and balance, together with perspective and the rationale behind things are so important.

Yes, that's true. I guess I'm a lot left, a little right, and a sprinkling of green. The only thing I truly hate is extremism.
The very people who should be in politics wouldn't touch the job with a barge pole, and quite a few in the job just want power and should not be there. There are some good ones, I've met them, but far too many disappoint.

Be very careful of the accumulative punishment syndrome, they have already been through the judicial system, and if you have never served time then its not possible to understand the effects of lose of liberty.
I say they should have voting rights.

Do prisoners really care who is in power? Presumably if you live on the fringes of society it can`t matter to you that much, apart from who will be more likely to go soft on you when you get caught.
