Quince.

Recently, my daughter said, ‘My friend has asked if you would like some pears, she has loads of them this year’. I said, ‘Yes, please, l love pears’.

She brought some for me and l thought, l would try one. Big mistake, as it was so hard and l nearly broke my teeth!
I decided it was an old tree they came from or that if l left them, they would eventually soften....but they didn’t!

Today, my daughter said, ‘My friend made a mistake, they aren’t pears’.
I said, ‘Are they Quince?’ ‘Yes’, she said.
Now, l didn’t know that, it was a guess!
So l ask, does anyone know what l can do with them?

Re: Quince.

My Aunt used to have a Quince tree in her garden years ago and used to make quince jam every year with hers.

Thank You, Mags. I read that quince contain a lot of pectin and are good for making jam.

Re: Quince.

In Portugal they are called Marmelos and they make Marmelada with them and eat it on toast for breakfast. I do believe that's where our Marmalade word came from, OK I still believe the story about the Scotsman who bought a boatload of oranges going cheap and preserved them.
