Ready prepared veg goes off much quicker too susie, always makes me wonder if the place it's prepared is very clean

No - never.

I never buy ready prepared things - am fortunate enough to live within a mile of a good butcher and a farm shop - so always buy fresh meat/chicken/vegetables from them.

Only stuff I buy from supermarkets is dry goods (barley, lentils, etc), tins (tuna, sardines etc.,) and cleaning products.
