Yes, but there was continued doubt about the case in some quarters as the baby's remains have never been found. She was released because the charges couldn't be proved 100% - in the Scottish courts that would be the equivalent of `not proven`.

That's not the case - the convictions were over turned by the Supreme Court sometime in the late 1980s and Lindy Chamberlain was acquitted.

There were four inquests into the death of Azaria Chamberlain that last one (not that long ago) definitively stated that a dingo took the baby and caused its death - a death certificate stating this was issued.

I am sure if you google this you will find this is the case.

Can you imagine losing your child in such a horrible way then being accused of killing the child yourself....the stuff of nightmares poor woman and family.....no dingoes involved but the Chamberlain situation reminds me of the McCann case.

She was released because they found the baby's clothles exactly as she the mother had described them .
Common sense dictates -much remains of an eight week old baby taken by a large carnivore are likely to be found ?
Dingos like wolves will skin a rabbit before eating it and will do the same with a baby gro.
Although there was even doubt over this as the clothles were found during a search for a climber who had fallen off Uluru .
The local authorities knew there was half tamed dingo out there used to taking food form campers ..
The aborigine tracker stated that the tracks showed a large dingo carrying something going away from the camp .
This was disregarded because the tracker a woman spoke through an interpreter .
The fact is there were out to get this woman .
Suspicion and ignorance had a free rein .
All the nonsense about sacrificial rites and blood in the car .
( it was rust retardant the same as any other car of that make )
There was not one scrap of evidence against this woman .

Edited Sorry Bruce just seen your post

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lind...lain-Creighton

I was in Australia when the controversy was still going on .
I met someone who knew Lindy Chamberlain -he said that girl never killed her baby -she was a very loving mother .
Yet others just jumped straight and said she did it !
Without a smidgin of proof .
Human nature is a funny thing .
People seem to relish witch hunts .
From Dreyfus to the Mccanns
Trial by media is a modern day phenomenon of something that has gone on throughout the ages.
