If as you day he is a very good driver and you can't fault his driving I really don't see it as a problem.As others have said keeping in touch with base or even other colleagues could be vital....but even if he is having the occasional chat with pals as long as his driving is ok.... why not.

In the U.S. talking into a hands free device varies state to state as to whether or not it's legal. It's called distracted driving. So many people are dying because of this kind of thing that the laws are getting stricter. It's like you can't be driving down the road and applying your make up.|
