Re: Curry's - and the great 'fridge/freezer hunt!
Those Currys PC World stores certainly are big aren't they? Just imagine what it must cost for the rent, business rates, heating, staff, the goods on display, the items in the stock room, the entire general upkeep of the place. Stocking up and running just one branch must cost a fortune.
With that in mind, it's no wonder they have to try and make money in ways other than just profit on the goods. True they could just put the prices up but they have to compete with companies selling purely on the Internet and the comparatively low overheads they probably have.
Currys have their online sales site too and perhaps this helps in keeping their local stores open. In fact, I suppose they make money any way they can to keep a profitable business.
Back to the purchase of the fridge. I know it doesn't sound nice and I'm sorry but to me, you were able to go to a fairly local store, physically inspect and get your hands on the goods that you wanted and get delivery next day. That's worth paying a bit extra for in my opinion. Where else can this be done?
I've sometimes ordered items from their online service and collected them from the local branch a couple of days later. Quite a good thing to be able to do I reckoned.
Our son recently bought a freezer from Currys PC World and paid the £25 to have the old one taken away. This was because the area he lives in doesn't have a free curbside collection service. This included the unpacking and plugging in too but that was by the by. The only part I wasn't impressed with was that the delivery men didn't take away the packaging.
