Female Genital Mutilation Education

We have already discussed this subject at length fairly recently, but it seems something positive is happening at last.

The Education Secretary, Damian Hinds, says a vital shake-up from September is going to make it compulsory for all Secondary schools to have lessons about the horrors of FMG.

Sex education and lessons on staying healthy will also be given to all pupils.
These lessons will also cover other forms of abuse including grooming, forced marriage, and domestic violence.

There is an FGM Chairty called 'Daughters of Eve,' who say - "Young people should know the rights they have to be safe."

Let's hope all this educatiion finally begins to make a difference at last.

The average British schoolgirl has no fears of FGM .
It is the ones from third world countries and cultures with ignorant parents who have never really left them .

I thought the same as you at first, Galty, it is too late for many.
But then I thought on, and decided if they can educate the next generation to see how wrong it is, maybe they won't do the same to their daughters as was done to them.

But they do. Some see it as a long-held tradition that should be carried out.

Yes I know that Judd, but sometimes traditions get carried on and on without giving it any thought, simply because it was 'tradition,' and no other real reason at all.

Maybe educating the next generation will help them see that something they always assumed was right - is not.
Maybe if the younger ones today see for themselves the damage and harm it does, it will make them think differently.

At the moment, they probably do it 'because they were 'educated' by the wrong people.
If they are now shown another persepective altogether, hopefully they will make a wiser choice than their mothers and grandmothers did.

That's got to be better than just punishing after the deed is done.

What makes me angry is that so many of these cases involve people who supposedly come to this country in fear of their lives but can pop back to Somalia or the Sudan in order to have their daughters mutilated.

Re: Female Genital Mutilation Education

Shocking to know this barbaric procedure still happens AND done by women to these tiny children . I listened to an older lady tell of it happening to her . The family held a party and celebration for her , she was bought gifts and was so happy , then after she was taken into a room and cut , she was sewn up so tight and left with a tiny hole , all her life she suffered . I dont know if she was operated on in the UK when older to sort her body out but she did say she was lucky as when they cut her the woman used an injection to anethasise and help with the pain , after that wore off she burned and burned and was very ill and infected. When the deed was done the family said to her , you are a woman now

Why would a woman do this to another female child

Re: Female Genital Mutilation Education

What a shame it has come to this, when we have to waste valuable education time teaching people not to mutilate their own daughters. That's how backward Britain has become.
