It would have been great. I did live in the era but was only born in 1964 so I didn't know anything about them then. (Not until I saw Pinky and Perky singing Yellow Submarine in 1969 anyway lol). I bought my first Beatles albums (the 1962-1966 and 1967-1970 'red and blue' compilations) in 1981 I think and got massively interested from there.

I have a couple of mates who are in their early 70's now and they both saw the band several times. They said they were brilliant but couldn't hear a thing because of all the girls screaming!

I was really too old for the Beatles sadly, though I did like their music. I was in my late teens & working in a record shop when they started. Their second single Please, Please Me, went ballistic & most record shops in the area ran out in an hour or so, with hindsight I should have ordered more boxes, could have made a killing for my Boss.

Re: The greatest Beatles song

I almost saw The Beatles when I was a teenager in 1963. I was with three mates camping over in Jersey. We were running out of money and stood outside the venue listening to them play. We had to decide whether pay and go in ..or save the money and buy food.

The food won but we ran out of grub anyway. We had a long journey back home by sea and car feeling very hungry. In retrospect, I wish we had gone even more hungry and paid to go in and see The Beatles.

Re: The greatest Beatles song

'63 ... Please Please Me ... I was 11, and wanted to scream, like the girls in the Beatlemania footage shown on the TV news.

Please Please Me thru to Revolver: loved it all. Then went off them a bit '67-'69. Loved the White album but wasn't really into Sgt Pepper and one or two other projects. Abbey Road & Let It Be ... abs brill. It wasn't until after they'd split that I realised the genius of some of those Sgt Pepper tracks.

"Yes, I'm lonely, wanna die, if I ain't dead already, girl you know the reason why" classic! Lennon's laugh at the blues revival and some heavy poetics.

Thanks Ray ... I thought I knew Revolver intimately, but I don't remember this, or not quite the same, well it was 50 years ago.
