The Doors - Light my Fire. Had to save my paper round money for that.

Then a bit of a lull until I started work and could afford to buy some more rock/progressive singles and albums - much to mum and dad's disgust - they were a Perry Como, Andy Williams sort.

Re: What was the first record you bought?

I've mentioned this before but my first single was Abba's 'Take A Chance On Me' bought with pocket money when I was 13 in February 1978.

The first album I bought with my own money was actually the fifth album in my collection, in 1981. What credibility I would ever have was lost before I even got the chance to get started on my collection:

Horror of horrors indeed!!
And to think the first foru (which were bought for me on birthdays, etc) were by Gary Numan, Blondie, The Sex Pistols and, er, Darts.

OH DEAR, I know I'm old but I must be very, very old judging by your first buy records. My first was 'White Christmas' Bing Crosby.

I can't remember the first record I bought but I remember it being a 78rpm which was played on a record player with a wind up handle sticking out of the side. My God I must be old!!

Re: What was the first record you bought?

Hi everybody,l have been looking down all your first records
this morning, what great choices, l remember them all.
My first record was probably Rock of Gibraltar by Frankie Lane,it
was an LP, and l had to buy a player to listen to it.
Your list brought back many memories.
Tommorrow an old freind is visiting and l intend to play the videos
you posted together with him.
Will try to get him on the forum as well, as he plays & sings in a
Ukalele band.
Not sure if l spelled ukawhatsit correctly and computer did'nt offer
a solution.

Best Regards, Donkeyman.
