Rotorua
I thought maybe as most of you will not be likely to travel this far, a little insight might be of interest. The central North Island of New Zealand is well known for it's thermal areas. In AD 186,long before man arrived on these islands the Taupo caldera erupted as the largest eruption on earth in the last 5000 years. Although currently Taupo is quiet with hot water beaches and wonderful trout fishing, there are no guarantees as 30km below the lake is magma. Back in 2008 we took our grandchildren to Rotorua.
A fascinating trip on the Lakeland Queen, paddle steamer, with a very informative talk as we sailed around Lake Rotorua..

Steam emerges all over the place.
