Coronavirus: "Life-saving" Dexamethasone being used to treat NHS patients

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-53077893

Following breakthrough results in a UK trial, Dexamethasone - a cheap, widely-available steroid - was shown to reduce deaths among patients on ventilators and on oxygen.

The UK's chief medical officers say it should be used "with immediate effect". And there are no issues with supplies of the medicine in the UK.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock told the Commons that 240,000 doses of the drug are "in stock and on order".

"It is not by any means a cure but it is the best news we have had," he added.

It comes as the UK government announced a further 184 people have died with coronavirus across all settings in the UK, taking the total to 42,153.
So ..... some good news, tempered with the bad ..... officially, the number of cases is approaching 300,000 in the UK .....

Very good news for all of us, especially those suffering with the effects of coronavirus in hospital on ventilators or oxygen, at least they have more of a fighting chance now. Sad though for all those who have died and their families, that this drug was not one of those tried earlier. Medical staff and scientists who deal with all this have such a task on their hands, fighting this virus which nobody can see but the effects are very evident to us all.
