Cellulitis

I'm going through another bout of cellulitis in my leg.
The inflamation is from knee to toe this time. And it's quite painful too. I was delirious and apparently talking nonsense - so hubby tells me.
It was only a fortnight ago, that I came off antibiotics for a lighter bout. I didn't have to visit the surgery, the doctor was happy to prescribe me a two week dose of antibiotics over the 'phone, but was insistent that I go and see her in a weeks time.
What worries me, is that I could be prescribed antibiotics on a permanent basis.
One of the doctors at the surgery, sort of threatened me with this a year ago (as if it was my fault that it re-occurs)
Has anyone else got cellulitis? Or is anyone taking antibiotics permanently?
I really don't want to take them forever

Re: Cellulitis

Sorry to hear you are suffering with this, Jan

I don't know much about cellulitis at all, is it something to do with the nerves in your leg?

Surely they couldn't put you AB's permanently, wouldn't you become immuned to them after a time?

My son in law has the same problem Jan as he is wheel chair bound having spina bifida. H e had a woman to see him who specialises in this complaint and she arranged for a massage to be done twice a week till it started moving and now he has been shown how to do it with a special cream.( by the way he is my x son in law as he has come out, but we wont go there) Ask at the surgery about it.

Re: Cellulitis

Antibiotics are finally doing their job..the pain is easing, the redness is going south should finally fall out of my big toe in a day or two
Seriously though, I'm feeling better in myself, not as tearful and with the pain easing I'm quite cheerful and enjoying all the birds calling at the feeders. (hubby is filling them so regularly that we'll be out of food soon )
My best wishes to your mother willow.

Re: Cellulitis

This is a condition I know well Janela, I've suffered with Cellulitis on my legs for about 5 years now. I took Fluxicillian (not sure if I've spelt that right) antibiotics, I was taken them once every month for about three years, so much so that I can't take these particular antibiotics now as I am immune to them.

This last two years I haven't needed antibiotics as I have been creaming my legs and feet twice a day with Oilatum cream. It stops the skin from going dry and keeps it in good condition. I sit with my legs up on a pouffe all the time I am sat down.

It can be a painful condition.

Good luck anyway.

Re: Cellulitis

Hello Alison, thanks for your reply.
I'm grateful for the suggestion of Oilatum cream. I've tried all sorts and I'm using E45 lotion at the moment, which quite frankly isn't brilliant. Being without a flare up for two years is marvellous, so I'll certainly be trying that cream.
I'm on the same antibiotics too but like you are, I don't want to become immune to them.
If I'm honest, I don't sit with my legs up enough! But after this bout, I'll get myself a laptop and sit with my feet on the coffee table
Thanks again.

The doctor told me that E45 isn't a very strong cream for Cullulitis, it didn't do me any good either whereas Oilatum is one of the better creams and the doctor suggested it. I have it on my repeat prescription, I use the big bottles with the pump action.

You must always sit with your legs up when you can, buy yourself a nice pouffe, quite a high one and sit comfortably with your legs up, but make sure you feel comfortable.

I also have it from knee to toe on both legs and it's there all the time, it's not as bad as it was due to the creaming.

It's good you haven't had a flare-up for two years, that's brilliant. Good luck Janela and I hope this helps
