Re: Porridge Oats

I like the coarse ones. I microwave them in milk for around 4 minutes but often have to add more milk. I chop up a fig or some nuts, add cinnamon and sometimes a tiny amount of honey. All to disguise the bland taste as I only eat them when I'm desperate!

Re: Porridge Oats

Thanks everyone, I will be trying some of those methods, plus the different brands of porridge, i am now hooked on porridge, admittedly I put syrup and cream in mine, even though I felt it needed cooking a bit more, it really was delicious, it fills you up as well, I haven’t eaten anything since breakfast, only drinks.

Re: Porridge Oats

I have Porridge every day for breakfast, if only cooking for one:

1 cup of Porridge.
1 cup of Milk.
1 cup of water.
Sugar if required (I don't have sugar).

Put in saucepan on medium heat, stir constantly.

Re: Porridge Oats

I prefer oatmeal soaked in water overnight. 1 part oatmeal 3.5 parts water. Bring to the boil and simmer for 3 minutes. Salt and black pepper to taste. No sweeteners.

Re: Porridge Oats

I don't like the texture of the stuff TBH. Reminds me of baby food. I much prefer a bacon sandwich or poached egg, plus the fact that protein keeps me full for longer - oats leave me hungry after about an hour.
