Spicy beef stew
It is a cold, wet overcast day today. This weather calls for a Spicy Beef Stew
Ingredients:
500 grams lamb or beef meat, minced
20ml oil
30 grams butter
1 large onion ,Sliced thick
4 carrots sliced thick
3 potatoes, peeled and cut in chunks
1 cup peas
1.5 cup green beans
2 cups broccoli
Fresh thyme
A mixture of Dried thyme, marjoram, sage, oregano and sweet basil (1 tablespoon of the mix)
Half a spoon fennel seeds
Half a spoon cumin seeds
1 bay leave
1 small cinnamon stick
1 star aniseed
2 small chillies (whole or chopped)
3 pieces fresh garlic, finely chopped
1.5 teaspoons ginger and garlic paste
1 teaspoon turmeric powder
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon fine salt
150 grams Brown onion soup powder
2 tablespoons flour (mixed with water to thicken)
Method
In a large pot, heat oil and butter.
Sauté onions and whole spices.
Add meat and brown pepper and thyme and mixed herbs.
Once meat is browned, add vegetables.
Add about 2 cups of tap water mixed with the brown onion powder, add to stew and let it simmer slowly till soft.
Add the flour with a bit of water to thicken.
Mix well. Serve with rice. Enjoy your hearty meal.
