Re: Leisurely Scribbles (part 5)
The king is dead - long live the king?
I thought I heard my past pass by today?
Nothing had changed it was still that same old way
No airway charms to fill, pollute our minds
We just invented scenes with street backcloths we could find
Grandpa once had run a taxi
I wonder whether family got a ride?
But these were family stories never spoken
We only had shanks pony alongside
We learned to catch a bus to school and back
Sometimes ‘twas two that was some heavy hack
Never paid a penny; all on tickets
Life had become sublime an easy wicket
We had learned to play at city slickers
But then got uprooted into country critters
But still no car, we walked and biked and trained
We’re now the country bumpkin, childhood wanes
No high rise buildings, just house and hearth
Our playground was an open plan country park
We roamed from field to field, from waterholes
Sometimes slept beneath a thousand souls!
We must have integrated well no major wars
We joined this club that club and learned their laws
And then the hormones kicked in with sudden jolt
We didn’t know if we were Arthur, Martha or buckin colt?
We tried to consummate so many times
But all those giggling girls mustaffa been blind
Could they not see the man beneath with weapon strong?
And opened up their joyful springs whilst we jogged along?
But NO it wasn’t until some two years later
That another country girl way south said ‘ya late but better late than natter!”
And without a blink a blush no ne’er a scream
I opened up my soul and wondered where I’d been?
Well now I feel somewhat exhausted
I’ll tell the rest when I have done and courted
Cos never mind the sudden blush of spring
You have to catch them before they all take wing!
