We have a rescue who was picked up as a stray by a dog warden. We have no past history to understand how he came to be a stray.

Did he escape and run away? Away rather than back home?
The only conclusion I can come to is that he wasn't happy with his previous home, not treated according to those ten commandments.

Their loss is our gain. A handsome, obedient fellow with a beautiful temperament. And manners to match.

Hi Besoeker, what a beautiful post...wish they're were more like you...

Re: A pet's 10 commandments

I was ok when I started this thread, but after reading all your posts, I feel like having a good little cry. I miss every animal I ever had, even as a child.

When I was on the farm, our cat had kittens. Mostly all white. There was 6 and I loved them. There was a sign put up on the pole that there were free kittens here, when they got old enough to leave mama. I wasn't around when the first car picked one. When I got back from berry picking, I noticed that I was one kitten short...I searched everywhere, then went in the house and heard the truth. I was a heartbroken little girl and it took quite a while for me to get over that.....

Thank you guys. He was in a pen with another smaller dog jumping on him.
His calm demeanor and that gaze, and we were hooked

Re: A pet's 10 commandments

These are words I love very much, and I'd like to share them with you:

A Pet’s Legacy ~

When humans die, they make a will
To leave their homes and all they have
To those they love.
I, too, would make a will if I could write.

To some poor wistful lonely stray
I leave my happy home,
My dish, my cosy bed, my cushioned chair, my toys,
The well loved lap, the gently stroking hand,
The loving voice, and the place I made in someone’s heart.
The love, that at the last could help me to
A peaceful and painless end
Held in loving arms.

If I should die, do not say –
“No more a pet I’ll have
To grieve me by its loss”
Seek out some lonely, unloved dog
And give my place to him.
This is my legacy I leave behind
‘Tis all I have to give.

So beautiful, Mups...and words, well worth heeding.

Re: A pet's 10 commandments

Thank you Filly.

I tried to read it as a poem at first, but of course, it's not.

It is just thoughts our dogs might have towards the end.

Sad, but lovely too.
