Re: spiders

I can't understand why anyone would be afraid of a creature that can't hurt you. It is different if the creature is venomous and can kill, but has nobody seen the beauty of a spider's web, especially when it has frost on it?

I can understand being a-feared of a spider the size of a human hand though, like the orb weaver.

I won't kill any creature unless it threatens my life though, literally.

Combining two threads here, the other night I watched a spider capturing a daddy long legs into his web. I felt so sorry for the DLL, but it wasn't my place to mess with nature.

If you have ordinary spiders in your house, it will do away with the others that you don't want there like flies and wasps etc, so be grateful to them!

Re: spiders

And the awful thing was that it was sitting in the middle of it's web when I walked onto it, and it .... ran ....over ... my ... face escaping!!!! I still have the horrors thinking abut it, and that was years ago!!

Re: spiders

Uuurrrggh! I can well understand that lass. I reckon I'd feel pretty much the same way, but I wouldn't want to kill it because it frightened me. Horrible experience though!

Re: spiders

For years afterwords, Mollie, I looked carefully in the Summer months to be sure there wasn't a web across my front sidewalk.... i'll never forget that.

Re: spiders

That must have been quite a fearsome thing lass.

When I was in the USA a few years ago on holiday I was sat on the porch and the person's house I was staying in came out to sit with me, then noticed a spider above my head. He told me to move away very carefully. I didn't know, but it was a venomous spider sitting above my head.

I went to get my camera and climbed onto a chair to take a snap of him! He didn't get a snap of me though!

Re: spiders

How odd! I only know of two poisonous varieties here: the black widow and the brown recluse, both of which are small and tend to lurk in quiet places ...I wonder what that was??

Re: spiders

You can buy a spray with horse chestnut oil in it now and you spray round the windows and doors to stop them coming in. Also I put conkers under furniture that the dog cant get too.
