I used to do that as well but since the first covid 19 lockdown that is not possible in our surgery now. Most appointments are by phone now.

Re: NHS Patient Access Site Down ?

Had an email from NHS Patient Access Site this morning to take part in a C19 survey.
Perhaps the site was down while the survey was being set up.

I don't use the site these days, my surgery no longer do online appointments.
You telephone the surgery and are triaged into emergency/none emergency then a telephone appointment is made.

There's a follow-up email, too (mine just arrived):

Memorable word

We are dedicated to safeguarding information relating to your health and the existing measures in Patient Access already offer a very high level of data protection and security. We are introducing an additional authentication step when signing in to Patient Access to further protect your data. You will be asked to set a ‘memorable word’ that you will need to enter three characters from when signing in to Patient Access, as well as your usual password. You will also be able to set a ‘memorable word reminder’ to help prompt you if at any point you forget it.
This so-called "two-factor authentication" is becoming the norm, nowadays .....

So did I. This memorable word business isn't due out for a while though:

Quote from the email I received: Please note that the memorable word requirement is not live now but will be rolled out over the coming months, so don’t worry if you haven't yet been asked to set it. EoQ.
