Re: Government running scared???

From what I saw of the protesters outside the conference most were very new to the political scene galvanised into action by the cuts the tories are making. Everyone makes mistakes when they first get involved believing they can make changes just by protesting loud enough. When you have been around the scene long enough you realise that doesn't happen very often. Nothing to do with left versus right and more to do with experienced politicians and those desperate enough to finally stand up and shout.

Re: Government running scared???

Just a point here before the thread goes completely; the government is apparently using the re-branding of the Minimum Wage to soften the effects of it's harsh Austerity Programme - right?

Checking through some rough figures I found that 4.6 million low-paid workers will benefit from the "largesse" of George Osborne but then I calculated that the government will actually gain about £740,000,000 in Income Tax from this measure!

The Office for Budget Responsibility said Tax increases, including a hike in insurance premium tax and less generous tax relief on pension contributions, would raise twice as much as the Chancellor gave away in the Personal Allowance to £11,000 and a small rise in the 40% Tax Threshold from 2016 so to my mind these austerity measures will impinge on the very people who need the most help - and George Osborne is well aware of this.

He did say “the benefits system should not support lifestyles and rents that are not available to the taxpayers who pay for that system” didn't he?

Some even say this increase to a National Minimum Wage of £7.20 per hour will also attract even more economic migrants to this country - just what we DO NOT need! stevmk2

£7.20 Will not help many IMO having just had a rise myself to £6.85 and now being told to pay for it we will all lose over half our hours I am sceptical it will help anyone.

Re: Government running scared???

Well Stevmk2 and Julie certainly don't intend to open up another front on this subject I expected the left to jump to the defence of the left but nobody has tackled the points I made and nobody attempted to deny them
I don't pretend the Conservatives are perfect but the party you are attempting to support is veering more to the left that at any time since the seventies and we all remember that decade. Rubbish on the streets power cuts and The Winter of Discontent. Do we really want that again? So you really want to support a party that calls for the overthrow of a democratically elected government and can't wait until the election, who admires regimes like there are in Russia, Argentina, Venezuela, and Cuba. A party led by people who would try to justify terrorist.

Re: Government running scared???

They are veering to the correct place IMO everyone needs to be represented in parliament and for too long no one has represented the low paid etc. If that is left then bring it on I say and lets have a proper parliament that represents everyone.

Jeremy is a real diplomat he knows only by talking can we bring all sides together if that means he has sat down with terrorists then that for me is a positive, he is principled and far less likely to take us to war than any leader for well over 50 years.

Where do you get your bizarre ideas?!

I am not a supporter of the left but you are obviously right-wing down to your bootlaces!

Why is it the Conservative Supporters - such as you - seem to think that everyone who does NOT believe that the Conservative Party is the best thing for this country is OBVIOUSLY a Labour Supporter?

Are you and those like you so myopic that you cannot see beyond petty politics, and I do mean petty?

For your information I voted UKIP in the last General Election because I didn't want a Conservative Government but I have voted Conservative locally in the past as, at the time, the prospective Conservative candidate was a life-long local and put the interests of the electorate first whereas the Labour candidate was parachuted-in by Brewers Green, much to the annoyance of local population.

The Labour Party to me is a waste of space now led by a sandalled buffoon who will be compared to that useless money-grabber Kinnock when he loses in 2020 and shuffles off into enforced retirement! stevmk2

Yeah!!! - bring it on - abolish the House of Lords and replace it with a democratically elected second chamber (a senate???), pension off the old biddy in Buck House and we'll have a democratically elected President - just like many of the other coutries in Europe - and for good measure we'll have a truly Socialist Government!!! - A government FOR all the people, not some tiny minority who have bought their power and privilege.

Well I said my piece, I'm not interested in a slanging match and you're not interested in sensible civilised argument so I will leave you to ferment the revolution.

Yes, you have said your piece and obviously believe you are 100% right as most Conservatives usually do but if you can't even admit your mistakes, (or should I say stop jumping to the wrong conclusions), in your attack on me there's absolutely no chance of a "sensible civilised argument" with you or others of your ilk at all is there?!
