I hope it is.
Sorry Art, I just noticed this part of your post.
No, your daughter should NOT be running a bloody marathon a week after dislocating her knee. That is plain stupid. She needs to rest it. Obviously.
There will be another chance next time. If she doesn't rest her knee she WILL cause further and probable irreparable damage.
Sorry to be blunt, but that's a fact.

But you have to enjoy the exercise otherwise you won't keep it up.

Very true. Those who "want" to keep themselves in shape and diet etc will invariably see results. Those who simply "need" to will probably give up through lack of interest or laziness.
I see so many New Year fatties join the gym on Jan 1st each year just to cancel their memberships after the first month. Willpower and enjoyment is the key.

It's a great form of exercise, Art. I just wish I could swim properly. I'm hopeless!

Re: Posers

I thought about joining a gym but realised that if I walked or cycled to the gym then went straight home I got about as much exercise as I needed and it cost me nothing.

I suppose it is just a matter of choosing a gym the right distance from your house.

Re: Posers

I hate to be the voice of negativity where swimming is concerned but I don't agree it's as good a form of exercise as everyone thinks....

I got both my kids involved in swimming from an early age and both swam at competition level into their teens before I decided school work should take precedence....

Both were fit as fiddles or so it seemed until my son developed a bad hip which had to be replaced at age 34 and a direct consequence of his love of swimming according to the specialist and surgeon.

Granted he got over the OP quickly and was back at work in two weeks albeit on crutches but I feel so guilty choosing swimming for him as a sport as a child.

I suppose it's everything in moderation but the medical experts were very clear his condition was caused by swimming and it looks like my son will have to have his other hip replaced soon too.

Hi Swim I will be interested to see how you get on with the Yoga.

I bought a mat and have been teaching myself Yoga at home with the aid of online videos. There are lots of classes around me and I may join one soon now I am regaining my mobility following treatment for a severe vitamin D deficiency. At the moment I do half an hour a day and feel more supple.
