I thought we were ahead booking next years holiday, my eldest is 40 so we are driving to Switzerland then down to Italy back through France and home. Road trip Europe style

Cruising is now becoming so popular the brochures are for 2 years ahead.
We learnt from other cruises that if you book late you don't get the best ship deck level or things like balconies as they have already been snatched up.
So this time we booked early ( yes my error in part thought it was for 2016 ) but thinking on it the price was £400 more expensive than the same for 2017. That is for same deck and cabin (if available)

So the closer the sailing time the price rises for late bookings so it seems.

We have started looking at it this way. Where would rather be? stuck in a UK hotel somewhere when generally its raining yet you have to be out of the hotel during the day and paying around £100 per night or more. or on a cruise ship with full entertainment - meals- and waking up each day somewhere new for £60 roughly a day. It is a no brainer

Unfortunately one of the holidays I'd put on my wish list for2017 turns out not to have any single cabins.

Much as I'd love to go on another cruise, it's the cost of gratuities that gets me, having already factored in the single supplement.

Seen some lovely ones, and thought of going away for Christmas.

Know the feeling Lila. Single places are limited on all trips so I threw my bucket list away.

You pay more for the holiday to start with with the single supplement, which gets you the crappiest room or you can upgrade and pay for the double. Either way we are doooomed

And before anyone tell me that there are single holidays..yes there are.. at twice the cost than normal holidays

The family have booked for next year's holiday with Nanna, another farmhouse in Devon
July seems a long way away but it will go all too fast.
I do the choosing, half the fun is going through all the possibilities .

They always say tips are optional, don't they? So difficult to know whom to tip, how much to tip etc. and who'll be offended if it's the wrong amount.

If you want a single cabin you have to pre-book before the cruise is even advertised.

This summer, Mrs. G decided to visit our daughter in Manchester. Fine, said DD, where will we run away to? She had been looking at hotels abroad and it was going to cost the same - two people or one, so she said she would pay if her mum was happy to share a twin room.

So, they had a jolly time in Porto visiting the port cellars and sampling the produce.
