I know what you're saying bret! Even if it was 60 years ago! They told us we could sell roo meat to a refrigerated truck that would turn up at the spot in Queensland on a certain day. We sat there for 3 days in 35ºC heat and eventually left the whole stinking mess behind a tree!

well sometimes them contraband trucks break down a lot - bet they turned up a few days later and said "typical bloody kiwis again - gone for a smoko and left the bloody meat out in the sun!" haha

Never mind! We got a job harvesting Broom Millet! The 3 of us got £75 for nearly 3 months work so £25 each! But it was character building!

These bloody things were all over the place! Give us Kiwis an earthquake or volcanic eruption but don't let us near snakes and other bitey things!

Terrific pics I wish I had taken photos of when I worked out in the bush in the 60s. great memories.

BTW I tried cane cutting - lasted one day!

I've been out with my Indigenous mates looking for a "killer" but they wouldn't let me take photos - I wonder why! but they did give me a load of meat!

We ate the rest as our local gave us a tab to pay off when we got paid at the end of the contract! Only 75 quid left!
