Re: Rolfe Harris

Really is time people who knew about it and covered it up were marched into court IMO, oddly when I was abused I blamed my Mum more than my abuser as she knew and did nothing to protect me I still cannot understand how anyone who knows can stand by and allow it to happen.

And BTW not all men are capable, it takes a very damaged and dangerous mind to even consider touching a child.

Certainly not all men - my Hubs reacts the same as I do, a good man will
As you say, those that know or have suspicion and do nothing, should be brought to book !

Re: Rolfe Harris

Some young children, especially girls, are devastatingly beautiful.
Their looks, their hair, their eyes and their smiles.

In the old days, I could talk to these girls, and compliment their mothers.

These days, I dare not. I would instantly be branded as a dirty old man.

I find that sad..

Where were all of the paedophiles when I was young? I was always told not to accept sweets off a strange man, but maybe paedophiles hadn't been invented back then; they didn't seem to exist.
... A bit like bulimia, anorexia, ADHD, dyslexia, Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome, kleptomania, and so on. As soon as somebody gives a condition a scientific name, they are everywhere.

Re: Rolfe Harris

You can blame the internet for most of them, it brought them out of their dark corners to share their abuse !
Before that, it was hidden but it was prevalent especially amongst priests !

They were there doing what they like to do, for some of us we didn't even realise what was happening was abuse, and being told your family would die if you spoke up we covered up for them. Many families would not have believed what we said either, as the idea an abuser could look somewhat ordinary never crossed their minds. The dirty old man in a mac was what they were looking for not that nice man next door who chatted over the fence so politely on a weekend as he cut his grass.

Re: Rolfe Harris

Well now he's been found guilty I think that we must be near rock-bottom in the trust stakes in the UK now - maybe in Oz too.

I've had problems with predatory men in the past; during my childhood in particular but I seemed to appeal to these people because I was blonde and blue-eyed more than anything else.

In Saudi Arabia I met a lot of American homosexual men and that's almost always what they said to me - the blonde hair, the golden tan and the blue yes did it for them, but I never had any problems with any of them being predatory, quite the opposite in fact.

I found them excellent company, funny, witty and incredibly protective towards their 'straight' friends once the ground rules were established.

With sexual predators you just don't get that at all and the two that tried to prey on me on two different occasions when I was 12 & 14 years old had something about them that I disliked immediately - it's an aura or a sense of evil if you like.

Some people I know said Savile had this aura - "he made my flesh creep" one BBC Sound Man told me years ago.

When I first had problems with these evil people I was 12 and when I asked someone for help that first time they didn't believe me.

When I was confronted by this person again I told my mother and she believed me and called the Police but they didn't believe me either and nothing was done about this man until months later when he was seen clearly by adult in those same woods exposing himself to another boy.

The 2nd time, when I was accosted on my paper-round I reported this to the news agent, who called the Police but, again, nothing was done until he actually assaulted another boy on Hilly Fields up the road.

Kids not being believed was a common theme with Savile, Hall AND Harris!

In Algeria years ago I'd been out there getting on for two years when I was moved back to the main contract working with a Scotsman - the first time it hadn't been teamed-up with Dutchman.

I didn't like Andy the minute I clapped eyes on him - that aura again.

We worked together OK but I kept my distance from him out of working hours, then he went on leave.

We had a bit of a problem with accommodation on the camp while he was away and I was asked if I'd get all his stuff from his cabin and move it temporarily, so I said fine.

He had a massive padlock on his locker, unlike most of us so had to get a fitter to remove this thing and when he did the door fell open and the locker was stuffed full of child porn and stacks of the most ghastly photos I've ever seen - I was almost physically sick!

The other lads were so incensed by this discovery that they destroyed the lot and some of his private possessions went the same way before I could stop them.

In the end, most of his possessions were parcelled up and sent to him and our company and our Dutch employer said he wasn't welcome back in Algeria, especially when it was discovered that some of the kids were his own.

Getting back to my point though, there is definitely something that emanates from these deviants and most decent men will pick up on it and shy away because to the vast majority of men, it's abhorrent. stevmk2

Re: Rolfe Harris

What shocking revelations Stev. It doesn't bear thinking about what goes on behind closed doors and what people are left to live with in their tormented minds for the rest of their lives.

Victims often feel guilty because they've been left with such low self esteem that they somehow think they may have been to blame. There is no way they will tell anyone in fear of being ashamed or not believed.

Yes, quite often the abuser is a family friend, or even family.

Jimmy Saville definitely had that "look". The unfortunate thing is that they often look as though butter wouldnn't melt in their mouths. That's how deceitful they are.

I was surprised about Rol H as I always kind of liked him, especially about the animal thing. He always showed compassion for animals. Pity he didn't share the same compassion for children.

No, of course I wuold never tar anyone with the same brush. The world is full of decent people as well as perverts. It's just that that often by the time the perverts have been found out the damage has been well and truly done.

Re: Rolfe Harris

Slightly off beam, here, but I think it is appalling that so many people are coming forward and saying, 'He touched me when I was twelve.' knowing damned well they are after compensation.

It reminds me of an accident in the States where a bus was struck by a truck. There were about six people on that bus.
By the time the police had arrived and were taking statements, there were about 30 people on the bus, all complaining about neck aches...

... and Moniker Lewinsky... Who would keep a stained blouse in their 'fridge for three years???
