That's a tricky one, I suppose in the older days, your Parents would want to know what your Boyfriend did for a living before dating their Daughter, if he didn't have a job or a very low income they probably would have put their Daughter off seeing him again.

But that's not something I would do.

I know it's a cliche of sorts but I really respect someone for the time and effort they put into their job rather than the nature of the job they are employed to do.

I respect all people regardless of their job until I have reason not to. True that I have asked what people do for a living but that's more because it gives a point of interest and conversation rather than to judge character.

I would never judge anyone on what job they have, I respect anyone who works for their living. I do however admire people who are willing to train and study for many years to fulfil their career ambitions.

So true Muddy, even applied to my Ex, the Mother of my kids.

The money, the kudos, the contacts, she loved it, I hated it.

Amazing how quickly you get dumped when you are injured.

Miss out on the invites, the Parties and Functions. the dinner jackets, the car parking space, being on the TV and Radio.

I was still me, but so false.

I learnt a lot from that, who your real friends are.

I do not miss it at all.

When MUCH younger and asked by some toffee nosed obvious snob my replies ranged from my being a piano player in the Yab Yum brothel in Amsterdam just home for a break to working at a massage franchise in the Plantation Club in Chester.

I could tell some tales of what sometimes followed!

Instead of asking people what people do for a living, I ask them what they are working on or what they've been doing of late. The responses are usually incredibly fascinating. People don't like to brag unless nudged them a little, but what people are "working on" is often interest or talent related. Good stuff.
