I'll bet you lived in a shoe box in the middle of the road too.

My institution has been demolished, fortunately I was there to make a photographic account, should have been happy but wasn't, a building never really tells a story, or does it?

Re: Schools Day's please tell us.

Hated every minute of school from the beginning of primary to the end of Grammar School. I left the day my last 'O' level exam was over and never returned.

Fortunately I have (had?) a very good memory and remember most things I read so was able to easily pass every exam I ever took. I doubt I would do well in today's schools where classwork is 50% of a pass as I rarely did any homework or crammed it during the morning break but come exam time? no problem!

5 miles there and 5 miles back to my senior school pouring with rain snowing freezing cold never once did I get a ride to school in a car, nowadays all the kids roll up in swanky cars driven by Mummy and most kids are well over weight,

Re: Schools Day's please tell us.

School was a necessary evil for me. Not interested at all. Did not start school, which was Eccclesbourne Infants, until I was seven years old due to the local school having been bombed a couple of years earlier. Also Mum was nursing my terminally ill Dad at home for three years. Moved from there to Tavistock Secondary Modern. I suffered that until the summer of 1954 when I left with no qualifications whatsoever. The same year I managed get get myself an apprenticeship as a radio & tv engineer with a company in Croydon. Five years later I finished my apprenticeship at Knights Hill Polytechnic.
