Why White Busby?

Hi all, Could someone please tell me why one of the Bandsmen at the Cenotaph this morning is wearing a White Busbyinstead of black like the rest of them?

I've tried googling it but no luck. Anyone know please?

Swimmy, that's wonderful. It was indeed the Kettle Drummer who was wearing the White with Red Busby. Thank you so much for answering my question as well as the reason why it is worn. It drives me mad when I cannot solve a query such as this one. xx

Don't know about anyone else, but when watching the Cenotaph, I feel such pride for all those wearing their many medals. Such valour.
And those Scottish bagpipes are something to behold. God bless them all.

Re: Why White Busby?

Great question. I watched the Remembrance Service this morning and wondered the same thing. I only saw views from behind and none from the front, so I couldn't even work out what the drummer was wearing at all.
A front view and explanation from the narrator would have helped in my opinion.

Thanks for the video link giving the answer.

Red for the blood that was spilled.
Black for the mourning of those left behind.
Green for the new growth on the fields of battle.
The leaf at eleven o'clock, symbolising the time when the guns fell silent.

That is what I'd call a "young fogey"

Re: Why White Busby?

My father was in the Welsh Guards.
I once referred to a bearskin as a Busby.
Only once!

Ooeerr! I stand corrected Tregonsee!
Upon looking it up, the Bearskin is the correct term for ceremonial headgear worn by Regiments (full bear pelt) whilst the Busby is a smaller 'fur' hat with a plume worn at the front.

I won't make that mistake again. Thank you for your correction.

Just as a matter of concern, Surely the MOD don't still use real bearskin pelts to make them in this day and age, do they?
