Did you ever have one of these?

I am currently watching "Location Location Location" and noticed one of those knitted/crocheted ladies which were placed over loo rolls in the toilet.

It reminded me of a list that I once read of what were considered to be "in poor taste" -

a cigarette lighter in the shape of a hand rifle
boxes for holding videos posing as books
coal effect electric fires
floor standing ashtrays
plastic fruit
the picture of the wee boy with a tear from his eye
a ship in a bottle
the previously mentioned loo roll lady

I admit to the video boxes and the coal effect fire. What about you?

Yes I used to have those loo roll covers,and coal effect fire, also, if anyone remembers a crotchet basket which was stiffened with something,I remember my mum having one of them

Art, I really think your ship in a bottle is a little more upmarket than what the article was referring to. Do you have a pic?

LT.... no idea about the boy with a tear from his eye?!

My next door neighbour had a floor standing ashtray and someone had the loo roll lady, which I can see in my mind's eye, but can't pinpoint who had it.
We had a coal effect electric fire

Yes, I'll dig it out. My dad acquired it in part payment for a diamond tie pin he made for a customer with more money than sense (or taste!)

Oh the loo roll lady! We had loads of them as a kid, heavens knows why. They were changed along with the loo roll. I loved them. I think they were considered a health hazard eventually!
