Correct me if l'm wrong CM but gumboots are waterproof
boots that reach to the crotch, the crotch being the lower
region of the abdomen? I have heard that the antipodean
definition is a poet that uses OZY vernacular?

Thanks for the correction Brucy! I must have been thinking
of goloshes? But it seems we all have a a welly song to
sing? Is that where Wellyton gets its name from?

Hi folks newcomer who's wandering the aussie countryside when permitted. Got a van and a small blowup caravan etc. One of the most iconic songs that reminds me of oz is by John Williams "Heh True Blue" not sure if I can load it on this site so if not maybe someone can assist?

Re: Home amongst the gum trees!

mind you and just come to think of it - I've got a good mate of mine - bit of a deep sea diver and catching lobsters as big as large tom cats is now wallowing away part of his life in one of the capital hospitals - came about he contracted murray river encaphalitis and is now a semi-invalid - has had two toes amputated and because of his now slurred speech I can't figure out why he was flown by the flying doc service to a capital city hosp.

the illness is transmitted by an infected mosquito - usually in the top end of the country rather than southern regions: and this guy had think hairy arms and the disease is non-reversible and non-curable. He now slurs his speech and needs health support services 2/3 times weekly. So life can be dangerous and unfair over here sometimes. Hope that hasn't put anyone off visiting - just bring ya suntan cream and mosquito coils and sprays! fair dinkum mate. I'm still trying to get over it myself atm!

I'm sorry to her about your mate,Bret.
Bruce is on the forum,he's traveling around Oz,I think.

I can cope with most stinging biting things since I've been here but mozzies.I just don't like them but they love me.

Re: Home amongst the gum trees!

well the incidence rating is very low but it is incurable at present although not transmissible. when I first arrived I was looking out for red backed spiders and snakes - but now ignore most things except crocs and sharks! and of course never tolerate mozzies on ya person! - otherwise it's a great life.

and let's face it in UK there is only one species of poisonous snake yes? and I believe you are re-introducing wolves back into the wild in Scotland - no? - otherwise apart from the occasional bee/wasp sting you are home and dry yes?

Re: Home amongst the gum trees!

Nah we don't need much moolah - can often sleep under the stars and shot a ro sometimes and have fresh prime roo steaks for breakie - can always hitch a lift along the way - do a bit of casual work on the farms - pickin fruit - then there are the city lads and lassies - don't know much about them they all look like zebras to me!

sometimes we get too much sun - pity we can't export it but were pullin it into the homes from our roof tops heh bruce!

we sell our gas that makes a dollar or two? - chinese keep buying the iron ore and will pick up the slack again soon with wine and cattle - once the dummy is back in place! oh and fillin up our unis with overseas guys and gals!
