If that isn't asking for trouble, I don't know what is!
According to a report in The Sun (yes, I know, it's the Sun) he wasn't on his own.

https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/973532...e-latest-news/

Aerial pictures of the scene today showed one car having come off the road, with another one yards away surrounded by debris and skid marks.

Police were also seen searching the inside of a grey BMW that was at the scene. A police forensic tent was set up as specialists worked to piece together exactly what happened.

PC Harper, who joined the force as a special constable in 2010, worked for the Roads Policing Proactive Unit.

He was with another police officer when he was killed.

The 28-year-old was out of his vehicle when he was struck by a car and dragged under it.

PC Harper was killed at the crossroads of Ufton Lane and Lambdens Hill, near to Sulhamstead. It was just three miles from the home of Kate Middleton's parents, Carole and Michael.

But seemingly accurate given that Police have been at the Four Houses Corner Caravan Site, about three miles from the death scene, since Friday.Run by West Berkshire Council, it is described as a traveller site on the authority's website.

Calling travellers by that rude name isn't a nice thing to do, not all travellers are criminals by any means!

Galty, HWMO said exactly the same as you when we heard that 10 men had been arrested, including a 13 year old boy. It is only travellers who would take a 13 year old with them to a burglery. Sure enough, on last night's news "Police are investigating at a local Caravan Park and the 10 are still being held in custody for murder".

I don't understand this at all yet. The police are not giving much away at the mo, are they.

What makes you think they might be and ?
It doesn't take 10 to commit burglery Mups, but when police arrive on the scene, travellers have a knack of running over mob handed and try to bully and shout their way out of trouble. One can only presume this is what was happening when all 10 were present when the incident occurred.

That isn't the point I was making. Calling travellers in general by a rude name, isn't pleasant.

Whoever is responsible for the tragic death of that policeman should be sent down for a very long time.

Re: Police officer killed

Tara the word originates from......
mid 19th century: from an old sense of pike, ‘a road on which a toll is collected’.

These are places where many travelers parked their caravans, and that is why travelers are called Pikeys.
In the urban dictionary it only became a bad term because it related to travelers behaviour.....

pikey
From the English "turnpike", the place where itinerent travellers and thieves would camp near a settlement.

Pikey is not a racial group, the term is used to describe anyone who lives in a caravan or shares the same values and "culture" of "the travelling community", and whose main sources of income are as follows:

Stealing cars, flogging roses in pubs for "childrens' charities", nicking lead off roofs, burgling garden sheds, blagging entry to old peoples house to rob them, doing dodgy tarmac jobs ("we've got some black stuff left over from a job up the road"), sometimes with mint imperials used as a substitute for white chippings, or, reportedly, using snow to lay slabs on when the sand ran out, stealing your bollocks if they weren't in a bag and anything else that's not nailed down and anything that is nailed down but will fit in the back of an untaxed Transit when nobody's looking.

Characterised by lurchers on a string, a unintelligible language that "isn't English, it isn't Irish, it's just Pikey" (source: Film: Snatch), a penchant for harecoursing, ketamine, lighter fuel, fighting in pubs and shopping at Lidl.

Best avoided.
