Re: drilling in UK stopped because of earth tremor
No need to tell me - I know .....
I'm in the immediate vicinity of Lancashire fracking and was a "victim" of the 2011 fracking earthquakes when I was "rocked" off my chair .....
Cuadrilla admits drilling caused Blackpool earthquakes
02 Nov 2011
In April,
a tremor measuring 2.3 on the Richter scale was felt in the Lancashire seaside resort, followed by an event in May that measured 1.5 on the scale.
“It is highly probable that the hydraulic fracturing of Cuadrilla’s Preese Hall-1 well did trigger a number of minor seismic events,” Cuadrilla admitted.

Lancashire fracking has stopped since small earthquakes, say locals

Cuadrilla won’t say if it has halted Preston New Road exploration, at cost of £94,000 a day
The shale gas firm Cuadrilla has refused to confirm whether it has halted fracking after triggering a series of minor earthquakes near Blackpool, raising questions over the operation’s future prospects.
Dozens of small tremors have been registered near the company’s Preston New Road site, after it started pumping high volumes of water underground in October to explore for gas.
Several signs suggest the company has not undertaken any fracking in the past fortnight.
One indicator is the absence of low-level seismic activity, which the firm has said is to be expected from fracking operations.
A total of 37 tremors have been recorded since fracking began on 15 October, but none since 4 November.
The threshold was set at 0.5-magnitude in 2012, with the rationale that earthquakes triggered after fracking operations could be as much as 1 magnitude higher than those during fracking. That would result in 1.5-magnitude tremors, the same level as one of the quakes in 2011 when Cuadrilla fracked at its Preese Hall site in Lancashire.
Cuadrilla did not challenge the limits when they were established six years ago.
Fracking is banned in Scotland and Wales.
