Perhaps it's just as well we remember the kindnesses
and forget those who are not as kind to us!

Yes, similar but worth about 60p GBP here. Link below shows our £1 coin,
apologies as I don't know how to post photos.

Would you still be hard on them?
There'd need to be a damn good reason and if there was it would be a lot more than just a pound.

People who have genuinely appeared to be short changed whilst paying for something, yes I have helped, be it on the bus, in the queue to purchase a train ticket, at the supermarket or in a cafe. But if a complete stranger approached me in the street and asked me for money for bus fare or for a drink or food then no, I do not give. If it's a genuine need then I will go and purchase the item for them but very rarely do they accept, they just make their excuses and go on their way approaching others asking for money.

Yes I would give them a pound if they were asking me inside the cafe but I would refuse if it was out on the street.

You have very attractive coins also. I used to love those big pennies you people had. When I lived there I had a bunch of those as well as half pennies, six pence, threepence, shillings.
Did I get those right?
Yes you did get them right. Link below shows that coinage, apologies I don't know how to post photos so a link is the best I can do:

Edited to replace original link with one showing better illustrations of coins
