Yes, I remember that too. She had been ironing (I think) and attempted to extract a damaged plug from the socket.

Unlike her boring husband she (Anne Reid) went on to do bigger and better things. Turns up in all sorts of TV series/films.

I thought she had been drying her hair and the hairdryer fused. In her hurry to get to where she was going she changed the fuse & didn't put the back on the plug...

I didn't think they had hair dryers in the olden days!

I'm not sure they had in-plug fuses either.

I thought the back of the plug was loose.

I may be wrong, of course.
