Tonight's episode of Corrie was very sad. It made me cry...

Yes. It looks like he could be facing a murder charge now.
Let me guess: "I didn't mean to kill him. It was an accident."

On the 1998 series, Jim McDonald has been drinking (what's new?) and tried to lay into his son, fell backwards and landed in a skip with blood coming out of his nose.
I've never found him a particularly interesting character.

I wasn’t expecting Seb to die last night, that was quite a shock

So, it's murder. Or at least it ought to be.
And there are witnesses.
Exciting.

It's not just the infrequency of genuinely exciting episodes these days compared to the 1998 series.

The other difference is that during the intervening 20-odd years they have replaced some genuinely interesting and convincing characters (I listed some earlier) with boring nonentities.

Re: Coronation Street

I suddenly got fed up with it right in the middle of an episode. Haven't watched it since, ten years now.

Yes, that's it! Humour.

I've just been watching Jack Duckworth being taken to a hypnotist by his wife, Vera, in an attempt to stop him smoking.

He's come up with a brilliant idea: he's reverted to a person from the 18th century... and Vera seems to have bought it!

Unfortunately, Roy Cropper has taken an interest in discovering more of how things were locally in those distant years. You can guess what's coming now. Jack has some quick thinking to do!

Re: Coronation Street

I’ve been watching CS for more years than I want to admit to. I’ve always enjoyed the characters. In the last 10 years or so, they have tried to make it more realistic, focusing on social issues like depression, etc. In my opinion, this was a soap that started out as entertainment – and there were lots of entertainment moments, i.e. Jack and Vera Duckworth. Now it jumps from one tragedy to another – it’s depressing. The comedy was taken right out of this show and replaced with “real life” events. I’m sure half the street has been in jail – it’s an old standby, the other half are busy having affairs. Sadly, I am realizing this is the time to quit watching and move on to something else. This soap no longer serves any purpose for me.
