If only.

There would be many who'd be laughing on the other side of their faces then.

Re: Does Britain need foreign workers?

Hi

Not all agricultural jobs are growers as people put it.

Farming around here is large, industrial size dairy and livestock, the only things we grow are for animal feed, apart from potatoes.

The farms are large and automated, these are skilled jobs, not unskilled labour in the main, and are paid accordingly.

We have trouble finding qualified UK staff for them, in spite of the wages and free accommodation.

Damian, my cleaners husband, bought an Audi Q7 with his bonus 2 years ago.

He has a 4 bedroom detached, less than 2 years old, on the farm, it is totally rent free, no Council tax bills, electricity bills etc etc, all paid for by his employer.

There were no UK applicants for the job at all with the right qualifications.

This, to my mind, is where we have been going wrong, for decades.

We should be offering more, and free, training to those areas where we have skills shortages.

We are not doing right by our kids.

Quite right Swim, no skilled UK workers because they all went to university and took 'Media Studies' or some other waste of space job. They leave university and are skilled facebook and Twitter users and are qualified in hard drinking and daytime TV.
Just so the government can produce low unemployment figures.

Oh come on not all children are like that .
Many are idealists and take stuff like environmental studies and then can't get a job .
Really the worse idea that he preivious labour government had was that everyone should go to university .
All that study should have an end in sight they were sold the idea that study and hard work would get them a good job and now it seems sometimes it won't get them any job .
I also know of clever dedicated young people who would have loved to enter the medical professsion but the lack of places makes entrance impossibly competitive .
Then we employ doctors and nurses from overseas .
Do we really know how good their qualifications are ?

Yes, B Liar again.

There are quite a lot of Mickey Mouse degrees as a direct result of his meddling. Money should not be spent on such useless degrees and spent instead on those which lead to qualifications the country really needs, such as the one you mention: medicine.

Re: Does Britain need foreign workers?

Hi

The problem is quite simply this, we need people who do real jobs, Doctors, Nurses, Builders and in particular Engineers.

We do not pay them enough, yet we pay non jobs, such as Estate Agents and Solicitors a fortune.

It is time to change.

Re: Does Britain need foreign workers?

When a benefit payment is more than one can get in a working wage there is something seriously wrong in this country.

Ok there are obviously exceptions such as health physical or mental where people are just not able to work.

it is those that can work but not prepared to get off their backsides, and usually take drugs, I am on about
