Still couldn't give up chocolate, unless my GP said I had to.

I usually do but not this year so I'm sitting here having a dark choc' caramel wafer with My coffee..there's enough doom & gloom around without Me suffering from sugar withdrawel too ...I'll be thinking about You Arty when I'm having hot apple tart and ice cream for after dinner tonight ...Your waistline will be smaller than Mine in a few weeks time but I can live with that.....good luck.x

No, but don't you have to be a bit religious to do something because of Lent?

Re: Have You Given Anything Up For Lent?

I was born and brought up a Catholic but haven't been a practicing Catholic for a very long time now...still..it became a habit to give up something I liked for 6 weeks of the year..and old habits die hard..it also was a good way of losing the half stone in weight I put on during the winter

Not really. It's like you don't have to be religious to do Pancake day. It's more of a tradition than a rule.

Quite so. That's why I can give up something any time I want, all year, every year. I see no need to pay even the faintest token of lip service to any religion whatsoever to do that.

Re: Have You Given Anything Up For Lent?

I kind of like the idea of giving up something for Lent, though I haven't this year.

Taking a pause to reach for something that is forbidden causes me to be grateful for what I have and to be mindful that I still have some self-discipline bouncing around in my aging brain.

The greatest power is having power over one's own primal brain. Giving up something for a while tests that.

So, I've decided to give up giving up crackers and salty snacks. This should be interesting.
