Dodgy domain names

Recently I became the recipient of very many unwanted emails. I immediately tried to stop them by marking them as junk. That didn’t stop them. I investigated and found that they have used some kind of random email address generator. The address would consist of two perfectly respectable words placed together. For instance : selectiontail. Every time an email was sent it would always have a different address so that the junk mail stop feature doesn’t work for me.

I have also found that these always have one of two domain names: xyz and icu. I wonder if anyone knows of a method way which I can automatically send all these emails into the junk folder simply on account of their domain names?

I think on some e-mail systems there is a way to only receive messages from 'approved' contacts, in other words those who are already in your address book, this may work but not if you get lots from other people, basically you'd have to have their address in your system for them to contact you.

With gmail it's done automatically but you can aways check your Spam folder anyway. I had a quote sent to me from a, previously unknown to me, company and there it was in the 'Spam' folder, one click and it was in the 'Inbox' where any from that company will be in the future as another click added their e-mail address to my Contacts!

Yes, it's brilliant for this kind of thing, not quite as good sometimes recently as it's now got some kind 'socialising' facility, in the early days of this I was having problems with the e-mail side. Possibly all sorted now and at times would be better if users were advised in advance of changes. These are always found when I need to send an urgent e-mail and it will not allow me to use it until I have agreed to the changes and found my way around it again! Sod's Law I guess.

I think you might need to say how you do get your e-mail. What company is it, what program is used (if any)?

Re: Dodgy domain names

Gmail is very good.

I find several items of junk mail in my Spam folder every day.
I suppose I should feel quite honoured as most of them address me as 'Doctor' or even 'Professor', neither of which titles I am entitled to!
